Soundgym has, in effect, built their own social network where you can interact and learn from other sound engineers and music producers. This is where Soundgym has a bit of a leg up, because inside, you also get access to the community. Train Your Ears has plenty of documentation and additional content on their website, as well as support and links to their social profiles. They also have a little more variety in terms of training offered (weвЂ™ll talk more about this later). Soundgym has clearly designed their exercises to be fun and interactive with, and their cartoony designs reflects this fact. And the first three exercises are initiated before you even reach the dashboard where you can start choosing your own direction. Soundgym doesnвЂ™t require much user input beyond choosing which training youвЂ™d like to take. That said, this also allows for more customization, and there is even an exercise designer that allows you to create your own. You must choose what music youвЂ™d like to do the exercises with, as well as which exercises, youвЂ™d like to engage in. Train Your Ears tends to require more user input. Still, they are both user friendly enough that you shouldnвЂ™t struggle for long. That said, they both lack some direction early on and are just a tad technical, a problem that would be easily solved with a quick-start tutorial or video (even an introductory paragraph would help). You start to get a better sense of how everything works once youвЂ™ve done two or three exercises, though.Д«oth platforms make a commendable attempt at getting you started fast. It will plunge you right into the training, which is not a problem, except that you donвЂ™t know how the interface is supposed to work yet. There are some introductory statements, but again they are a little insufficient. The training within Train Your Ears is relatively straightforward, but again takes a little getting used to. We recommend checking this option if this is your first time using the software. Fortunately, you can access music on your hard drive or from another source like Spotify easily.ДЇor some reason, as we pointed out in the Train Your Ears review, one of the most useful features (вЂњJump to a random song/time each time you start a new quizвЂќ) is kind of obscured within the interface. Having said that, itвЂ™s not entirely clear that you basically need to choose your own music before getting started. Once installed on your hard drive, Train Your Ears prompts you to select music, choose an exercise, and start training. And I am saying that as an experienced sound engineer.
